Catholic Charities of Rockfort, Illinois have effectively gotten out of the adoption and foster care business in response to the state’s policy of allowing civil unions for gays and lesbians. Fifty eight workers will lose their jobs, and three hundred fifty children will be moved to the state’s child welfare system.
“While we understand leaving this work will be very painful for our client families, employees, volunteers, donors and prayerful supporters, we can no longer contract with the State of Illinois whose laws would force us to participate in activity offensive to the moral teachings of the church – teachings which compel us to do this work in the first place.” (LINK)
With one fell swoop, Rockfort’s Catholics have proven their moral turpitude. They would rather put hundreds of families through disruptive and painful red tape — probably for many years — than “live and let live” with regard to other people’s sexual practices. In choosing this path, they are committing two evils instead of doing the morally good thing. First they are continuing to practice bigotry and discrimination, and second, they are putting innocent children and families through emotional pain where none is necessary.

This would be a good opportunity for an atheistic charity to get involved. Raise some children with good, secular values.
If the catholics want to be sanctimonious little bitches about this, let them. The less involved they are in society the better.
