Yep. That’s right. The sexual revolution is to blame for priests molesting children in the 70s. So says Walter Mixa, one of the highest ranking bishops in Germany.
“The so-called sexual revolution, in which some especially progressive moral critics supported the legalisation of sexual contact between adults and children, is certainly not innocent,” he said, adding that the media was also at fault.
This is a particularly bizarre claim, because he’s not targeting the “free love hippies” or the feminists, or any of the big players in the sexual revolution. Apparently, there was also a movement to make statutory rape legal. I did a relatively thorough search for this movement, and really didn’t come up with much. NAMBLA is the most famous group advocating the legalization of sex between adults and minors. They were founded in 1978, well after many of the Catholic abuse cases happened.
This isn’t to say there weren’t some groups with the same goals in the 60s and 70s, but I’ll be damned if I can find any significant reference to them. Am I missing something here?
Oh, and also the media. It’s always the media. What is it with conservatives and the religious and their hatred of the media? And how, pray tell, did the media force priests to stick their wieners in little boys’ behinds? What kind of pansy is God that he can’t even give a few priests the intestinal fortitude to keep their dicks in their pants around altar boys?
Can someone explain to me why anyone believes anything the Catholic Church says? About anything?
